Differences Between PVC Tarpaulin and TPU Tarpaulin

Dec 25, 2025

PVC Tarpaulin: Made from polyvinyl chloride coated or laminated onto a woven polyester base. It is inherently rigid, heavy-duty, and cost-effective, with strong resistance to abrasion, chemicals, and UV radiation in its reinforced versions. However, it contains plasticizers that may leach over time, and it is less flexible at low temperatures, becoming stiff or even brittle in cold environments.

TPU Tarpaulin: Composed of thermoplastic polyurethane film bonded to a polyester scrim. TPU is a more advanced polymer, featuring excellent elasticity, flexibility (even in sub-zero temperatures), and high tensile strength. It is free of plasticizers and heavy metals, making it more environmentally friendly and safer for direct contact with food or skin.
